Princess Christina, Mrs Magnuson at the 2009 SALSS welcoming reception. For me, event photography is all about capturing the natural expressions of the persons at the event and to do this I normally use a telephoto lens so that I can do this unnoticed even if it's crowded, cramped and the light levels are low.
Sometimes the elements are against you when trying to take photos and you just have to fight 'em or go with the flow. The wind gave Jessicas hair a hard time but in the end I think it adds important dynamics to a quite standard straight on portrait.
While it was too cold to get in the water we took the opportunity to take some pictures of Jessica on the beach after being inspired by SI. It's shot using only natural afternoon light.
Jessica playing with Molly at a playground in Skansen. The brown foreground and green background works really well without leading the eyes away from the main subject. Due to the flat lighting from overcast skies Jessica has natural skin tones even though it's a very saturated photo.
Molly climbing at Skansen. The wooden structure (and the out of focus background in some extent) is used as natural framing. Photographing children is easiest when their minds are occupied with something else than the camera and you can just wait for a good frame.
This is a snap portrait (basically just lifting the camera and pressing the shutter release whithout any posing) of Jessica when we were walking around in London. A snapshot can often givemore natural portraits than posed ones when the main focus is on something else than photography.
